Threads iconHow to Block Threads on a Computer or Laptop (Windows)

Are you a parent trying to keep a child focused, or an employer keeping a team on task? Threads is one more feed that's easy to open "for a minute" and hard to close — and its own in-app settings are easy to switch off. To block Threads for good, you have to block it at the computer level, not from inside the app.

  2. See every site and app used, updated in real time, with anything flagged as risky highlighted.
  3. Spot Threads (or anything else) in the list? Click the options icon next to it and choose Block or Limit right from the report — no need to go back into Rules.

FAQ

HT Family Shield and HT Task Vector are designed for Windows and support all modern versions, including Windows 11, 10, 8, and 7.

Yes. Once Threads is added to the Custom List and blocked, it stays blocked in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera, Brave, and Internet Explorer alike.

Yes. Reports and Alerts in your dashboard update in real time, showing every site and app in use, including Threads, so you can block or limit anything you spot directly from the report.

Rules > Website Limits is where you set up Threads to be blocked or limited ahead of time. Reports and Alerts show what's already happening in real time, and let you block or limit Threads — or anything else you spot — on the spot, without going back into Rules.

No. The block is enforced at the computer level, so it holds even in private or incognito mode and even when a VPN is active.

Meta hasn't released an official Windows app for Threads, so it's normally used at threads.net in a browser. Unofficial third-party desktop wrappers do exist; if one is installed, it can be blocked directly in App Blocking alongside the website.
